"Running Fire" on the ISE-NIN

video upload by Mostly Synths and Keyboards (Logan)

"A tune from the 'Disgaea' OST on Black Corporation's ISE-NIN

This is a fun one to play. It's layered with other sounds from the ISE-NIN (besides the drums). The ISE-NIN isn't a mono synth but the unison mode really thickens up the sound for leads. This patch utilizes polyphonic aftertouch for vibrato."

Black Corporation ISE-NIN: Split Mode

video upload by Mostly Synths and Keyboards (Logan)

"Showcasing the split mode of Black Corporation's ISE-NIN. There's a variety of splits that combine bass, chords, arps, and leads in different configurations. Some reverb added and each layer is panned 15%. Nothing has been EQ'd or mixed beyond the synth's balance knob"

Black Corporation ISE-NIN: Stereo Patches 2

video upload by Mostly Synths and Keyboards (Logan)

"Second installment of some original binaural/stereo patches for LR listening. Each layer is panned 40%. Some reverb added but this has not been EQ'd.

I've had the synth for a few weeks and am starting to get familiar with it. The ISE-NIN is eminently programmable and easy to go get great sounds out of! It can achieve some pleasant stereo effects and I hope this is reflected in the video. The approach here was to start with the same patch in each layer and add variations between the two (eg fine tuning, pulse width, LFO mod, etc). The twin LFO's retrigger on a key press and I think a free-running LFO would do more favors for binaural patches so I'm hoping for this option in an update. I've made 50 stereo patches so far and it'll be easy to fill up the whole bank!"

Black Corporation ISE-NIN: True Stereo Patches

video upload by Mostly Synths and Keyboards (Logan)

"Here are some original patches that use dual mode to create a stereophonic sound. This is essentially two different patches panned 30-40% left/right. Dual mode gives 4 voices of polyphony. There is some reverb added but I tried to keep it tasteful.

I've had the synth for about 10 days and am having a blast with it. I've found it straightforward to program and very much an instant gratification synth; however the velocity/pressure routing adds a great depth and making patches for left/right stereo sound is a little more challenging. I like how these turned out but I think with time I'll be able to make more sophisticated patches."

Black Corporation ISE-NIN: Benedek Bank (No talk, no reverb!)

video upload by Mostly Synths and Keyboards (Logan)

"Nine selections from the Benedek bank of Black Corporation's ISE-NIN. No reverb, compression, EQ, or other processing was added. This video has some improvements in both sound and video over my earlier ISE-NIN demo. These are mono patches mostly in 'whole' mode, but stay tuned for an upcoming video on stereo patches in 'dual' mode!

Features text narration by my friend Pascal the Possum"

Black Corporation ISE-NIN: Just the Presets (No Talk, No Reverb!)

video upload by Mostly Synths and Keyboards (Logan)

"ISE-NIN with no reverb, compression, EQ, or any other processing. Just the volume was raised.

This video was recorded during my first couple days with the ISE-NIN, which is the best sounding polysynth I've ever owned. I started with the presets and I'm partial to the 'vintage' bank. I did this video in a hurry so I apologize for it being unpolished- I was just so excited to get some sounds of the ISE-NIN online because there's not enough demos of it.

The synth is not without faults (mostly little bugs that could maybe be fixed in a firmware update) but I'm glad I bought it. It's an outstanding instrument of the highest caliber. I'm hoping its quality shines through my amateurish video."

6 minute Keyboard Jam: Voyager, Deckard's Voice, Redtron

video upload by Mostly Synths and Keyboards (Logan)

"This is a casual improv using a Moog Voyager, Black Corp Deckard's Voice, and a Nord Stage, which controls Redtron. Redtron is a great free mellotron VSTi that uses publicly available samples. This is a fun combination because the Mellotron choir and the Moog are very full sounds, while the Rhodes and Deckard's are thinner and cleaner."

Black Corporation Kijimi: Let's Stack Witih the Hydrasynth!

video upload by Mostly Synths and Keyboards (Logan)

"Here are 9 patches using both the Kijimi and the Hydrasynth. The first 10 seconds of each sound are Hydrasynth only, then the Kijimi is added. Minimal reverb added, the clipping in the second-to-last sound is part of the Hydrasynth patch. Hydrasynth sounds are presets- in case you're playing along at home:

0:00 A-077
1:02 B-042
1:40 A-054
2:15 A-089
3:12 B-015
4:18 B-045
5:11 M1-016
6:15 D-068
6:56 D-087

The Kijmi adds a nice body to the Hydrasynth. As much as I love the Hydrasynth, there's nothing analog about its sound. This combination could do some amazing evolving sounds but I don't have the patience for that."

Trying Out the Kijimi's Polyphonic Aftertouch

video upload by Mostly Synths and Keyboards (Logan)

"Recently, I got a Hydrasynth Deluxe and I've been so busy learning about it I haven't tried out its polyphonic aftertouch with the Kijimi until now. This is patch 48 from my bank LM and I've just changed the pressure to lower pitch by a 2nd.

It takes some getting used to! Especially using pitch bend successively for vibrato. But there's so many ways it can be useful and I'm having fun with the other aftertouch destinations now too. This should hold me over until the PAt keyboard version of the Kijimi with 88 waterfall keys and 16 voices that they are developing just for me."

Deckard's Voice Synced to Rachael: No Talk, No Reverb!

video upload by Mostly Synths and Keyboards (Logan)

"A silently-narrated video showing off some sync sounds played on keyboard with the Pro 3. The modules used are just Deckard and Rachael except a couple noted instances that have little effect.

I was having fun with some LED's but I'll tone it down in the future."

Pre-SRM Octave Cat: Stacking Into 4 Note Chords (5 Different Patches)

video upload by Mostly Synths and Keyboards (Logan)

"Overdubbing one note at a time takes over 4 times as long, but it creates a unique tone with 4 times as many options for processing, and the ability to either reduce or exaggerate waveform cancellation of poly synth sounds. Some poly synths have separate outputs per voice, but this more tedious method has more impact- at least in my own playing."

Black Corp Rachael and the Pro 3: A Symbiotic Relationship (patch example)

video upload by Mostly Synths and Keyboards (Logan)

"In this patch, the Rachael adds an oscillator, EG, and ring mod to the Pro 3, which controls pitch, depth, and envelope stages of the Rachael."

Sequential Pro 3 and Black Corp Rachael (#2)

video upload by Mostly Synths and Keyboards (Logan)

"This is a patch I've tried to give expressiveness with the Pro 3's modulation capabilities and the nice raw sound of the Black Corporation Rachael. The Rachael is mixed in pre-filter and also separately. Erica Synth's Black Hole DSP 2 adds some echo at the end of the chain."

Pro 3 Legato Gliss Lead: thank you for everything, Dave Smith!

video upload by Mostly Synths and Keyboards (Logan)

"The Pro 3's alternate gliss mode is for legato playing; the gliss only activates from one note to the next if the first note is held down. Like the opposite of percussion on an organ. This is a factory preset; I had to stop myself from making a patch because I can spend over an hour designing a sound on this synth.

Saddened by the news of Dave Smith's death but his innovations will live on everywhere"

About Strings Machines.
A remarkable number of musicians recognize the desirable sonic character of “string machines”. String machines were unique to the Seventies and nearly every major manufacturer offered some variation on the theme. ARP’s biggest selling instrument was in fact their Omni, an instrument that combined a string machine with a simple synthesizer. Even Moog got in on the act with their Opus 3.

Just as the Rhodes piano and Hammond organs were intended as portable solutions to musicians who desired the sound of more cumbersome (and expensive) instruments, string machines were seen as the gigging musician’s alternative to the orchestra. Or, at the very least, it was easier to carry around than a Mellotron! Of course, the string machines didn’t sound like an orchestra, but had a character that today’s musicians find quite appealing on its own merits.
